Observation Report
Name of the School Observed: West City Central School
Location of the School: West City Central, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City
Date of Visit: February 2014
Take note of the following details and write them in your observation report.
1. Number of the Bulletin Board Displays: There are nine (9) bulletin board displayed.
2. Location of Bulletin Board Displays (BBD): Inside the classroom.
3. Describe each BBD in terms of the following:
a. the messages it provides:
The message written on the bulletin boards provides additional knowledge to all the students and serves as evidence on their daily activities.
b. images and color:
The images used are very appropriate to the age of the students and the colors were combined well that it is nice to look at. They are very attractive.
The arrangements of information are consistent and are understandable to all.
4. Materials used in the display: There are some indigenous materials used in the display, they are done creatively. The makers of the bulletin were very resourceful.
5. Errors noticed, if any: I have noticed about one of the former Presidents of the Philippines, instead of Manuel M. Quezon, they still display the wrong one which is Manuel L. Quezon. It should be Manuel M. Quezon because his middle name is Molina, the initial “L” there is his name Manuel Luis. We should be carefully sensitive to that because it might be absorbed negatively by the students.
6. Borders, if any: The borders are okay, they are all in uniform.
7. Clarity of message: The message there are 98% clear that students could understand well. They are appropriate to their ages.
8. Photo Documentation, if any: They have documented different photos in their bulletin and they are done uniquely.
This bulletin contains all the information about, memorandums and activities.

Recommendations or Suggestions for Improvement:
All in all, Bulletin Board Displays are good but lacking of information that may help students expand their knowledge. Information should be valid and reliable. Like the name of Manuel Luis M. Quezon, it is placed their Manuel L. Quezon, the students may misunderstood that. Use more materials or images that will add to student’s expansion of knowledge. Give more emphasis on the information than the arts, or balance it anyway.
Your Analysis:
Describe the board design in terms of raising the target audience’s interest.
The display designs are very attractive and are appropriate to student’s ages. This will help nurture their knowledge and capabilities. The display fits to the board design. It reflects to the maker itself.
Use of language in making the target audience’s understanding of the information.
The language used fits to the subject and they were used appropriately, correctly and understandably. The words are easy to understand by the students that made them be interested about it.
The intention of the Board Display
Board display’s intended for the posting of public messages, for example, to advertise items wanted or for sale, announce events, or provide information. Bulletin boards are often made of a material such as cork to facilitate addition and removal of messages, or they can be placed on computer networks so people can leave and erase messages for other people to read and see.
Your Suggestion
My suggestion is that information must be understandable, valid and reliable; understandable in the sense that, they are grammatically correct. Valid in the sense that information fits with the content and with the theme. Reliable in such a way that all information are true and correct.
Based on your suggestions, propose a bulletin board display by using the form below.
PROPOSE BOARD DISPLAY
Theme: Respect Each and Everyone
Board Title: I respect you, I respect them and I respect myself
Objectives:
1. To be able to let the audience know how to respect.
2. To be able to let the audience know what the word “respect” is.
3. To let the audience understand why we need to respect each and every one.
Best Features of My Proposed Bulletin Enhancement
“A child respects his/her parents”
“I respect you, therefore I respect myself”
“Respect, give it to get it”
- It will sure catch the audience attention because of its uniqueness, creativity and very colorful
- I will make sure that the bulletin will really provide the information they need.
- It fits to the objective and the theme.
- Audiences are informed about Respect.
Content Resources (Name each needed resource and describe each).
Images/Photos/Layouts
|
We need photos/images or layouts to make the Bulletin better
understood by the audience.
|
Researches (books/internet)
|
We need to research about any related topic with our theme
to have additional information and to make it valid and reliable.
|
Suggestions
|
Be open-minded; remember that you can expand more ideas
if you listen to the others’ suggestion.
|
Knowledge
|
It is very important that we know what we are doing;
don’t just based only in your research.
|
Materials needed for designing and enhancing are:
- Some indigenous materials (dried leaves, shells, mat “banig”, etc.)
- Cut-out color papers, construction paper, Scissors, Glue, Double-sided tape, Push pins, Crepe paper, Printed materials including pictures , silver dust (if needed) and other tiny details for attraction
My Board Display Lay-out:
(Note: This is just an example design of what will be my bulletin is.)
Your Reflections:
From what you have observed about the bulletin board display, what are the skills that must be develop by the teacher?
Those Bulletin board displays from the schools are made by the teacher. The skills that must be developed by the teachers are creativity, originality, patience and ability.
Did you have any experience designing or making bulletin board? Which skill do you already have?
Yes, I already have an experience designing bulletin boards when I was in my High School Years. I was able to build my creativity, patience, originality and ability.
Are there skills you think you still need? Reflect on how you can acquire and improve on these skills?
Maybe, being an open-minded. I don’t really usually listen to the suggestions of the others. I do it on my own ideas. I will acquire these if next time I will be open-minded and will listen to the suggestions of the others.

Your analysis:
What is the basis of the teacher in choosing such instructional material in the lesson?
· The teacher is basing her instructional materials on his/her topic and his her researches. She will going to use such instructional materials which are more appropriate with the students.
Do you observe any difficulty in the use of the instructional material? How did she manage it?
· I don’t see any difficulties of the instructional materials she is using because the materials are understandable and very appropriate.
Was the use of the materials effective? Why? Why not?
· YES, her instructional materials were effective and are appropriate to the students because she really catches the attention of the students and I can see that they really did understand it.
How did the learners respond to the teacher’s use of the visual aids?
· I observed that the learners were very attentive and motivated to learn. They also participated in every activities of the teacher.
Your Reflection
Imagine yourself as the teacher. What would you do or not do if you were to teach the same subject to the same group of students?
I, as a teacher I will not be dependent on the instructional materials I am using cause I, myself can be an example of an instructional materials. For my students to better understand the lesson much better if they focus on me because instructional materials serve only as their guide. The way they are learning depends on how the teacher delivers his/her lessons. So I would better improve my teaching discussion because they are dependent on me

Your Analysis:
Why is there a need to make a survey of available materials before making your own materials?
1. To know how that instructional materials help students in their learning and understanding.
2. To know what appropriate instructional materials to be used for the students.
3. To come up with a better instructional materials for better learning and understanding.
Your Reflection:
What materials did you like most?
The video presentations or the power point, because we can make it more creative and detailed that will make the students better understand the lesson. We can insert pictures, videos, clip arts and other sites to have an expansion of information and ideas.
What difficulties did you encounter in making the materials?
· How to organize the ideas and concepts to be included in the presentation.
· How to put emphasis on the subject matter.
· Choosing what appropriate information to be included in the presentation.
· In inserting videos, graphics and background to make it more attractive to target learners attention.
How did you overcome it?
The learning of the listeners motivates me to make my presentation successful and perfect. Actually I am really not aiming for perfect designs of my presentations, I am up to their understanding and expansion of knowledge but fortunately I did both perfectly.
Make Suggestions to the teachers in the preparation of teaching materials.
· It should be appropriate for the learning of the students.
· It should give emphasis on the subject matter.
· It should consider the learners understanding and differences
· It should help students to grasp the concepts and ideas of the topic.
Learning Activity 5: PAPER WORKS (Hand-outs Use)
A HAND-OUT
Subject Matter: Chemistry Year Level: 1st Year
Content:
What is matter?
· All objects are made of matter
· All physical objects are composed of matter, in the form of atoms, which are in turn composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Atoms are made of extremely tiny particles called protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Protons are a particle in an atom that has a positive charge.
Neutrons are a particle in an atom that has no charge.
Electrons are a particle in an atom that has a negative charge.
-it surrounds the nucleus.
· The charge on the proton and electron are exactly the same size but opposite.
· Since opposite charges attract protons and electrons attract each other.
Kinds of Matter
Pure Substance
· A pure substance consists of a single kind of matter.
· It always has the same composition and the same set of properties.
Example: baking soda is a single kind of matter, known chemically as sodium hydrogen carbonate.
NaHCO3
Mixtures
· A mixture consists of two or more pure substances.
· Most of the matter we see around us is composed of mixtures.
· Seawater contains dissolved salts; river water contains suspended mud; hard water contains salts of calcium, magnesium, and iron.
· Both seawater and river water also contain dissolved oxygen, without which fish and other aquatic life could not survive.
· Unlike the constant composition of a simple substance, the composition of a mixture can be changed.
· The properties of the mixture depend on the percentage of each pure substance in it.
|
The Phases of Matter
Matter can exist in several distinct forms which we call phases. We are all familiar with solids, liquids and gases. Whether a substance is a solid, liquid or gas depends on the potential energy in the atomic forces holding the particles together and the thermal energy of the particle motions. The pressure on the substance also has an effect on the phase.
Solids
· Crystalline solids are characterized by a long-range order.
· The atoms are closely packed on lattice points held in in place by atomic bonds.
· The internal energy of the atoms is not sufficient to allow the atoms to break away from their lattice positions.
Examples: include semiconductors, quartz, salt, etc.
· Amorphous Solids are still closely packed together but lack the translational symmetry of crystalline solids.
· However, even amorphous solids have relatively good spatial ordering, especially over small distances, (10-100 molecules)
Liquids As the material is heated, the internal energy is increased and the atoms are no longer tied to their lattice positions but can move relative to each other although the atoms are still closely packed together.
Gases A gas is matter in which the molecules are widely separated, move around freely, and move at high speeds. Examples of solids include the gases we breathe (nitrogen, oxygen, and others), the helium in balloons, and stea (water vapor).
Plasmas Eventually, given enough heat, the electrons and nucleus become separated and into positively, charged ions and negatively charged electrons. This soup of ions and electrons is known as a plasma
LEARNING ACTIVITIES
· Cooperative learning
· Demonstration
· Discussion
· Video Presentation
ASSESSMENT PLAN
· I will let my students demonstrate and explain what have they learn from the discussion.
· I will gather some questions from them to know if they really understand the lesson.
· In assessing them, I will give them quiz to test how far they learned. Or maybe the students will have written and oral exam.
Tools:
In the presentation, describe how the tool was used in a particular lesson/time.
The tools are used by the teacher as guide on her lessons. It will help the students further understand the topic and expansion of knowledge.
Your Analysis:
Which feature of the hand-out is not effective?
For me, all feature of the handouts are effective because I have achieved my objectives.
What is measured by assessment plan? Is it process or product? Explain.
Both process and product are being measured by the teacher assessment plan because she let her students present something out of what they have learned and demonstrate what they have understood out of the topic as well. She also employed written and oral exam.
Your Reflection:
Recall any difficulties encountered in making hand-outs? How did you overcome them?
· How to organize the ideas and concepts to be included in the presentation.
· How to put emphasis on the subject matter.
· Choosing what appropriate information to be included in the presentation.
· In inserting videos, graphics and background to make it more attractive to target learners attention.
The learning of the listeners motivates me to make my presentation successful and perfect. Actually I am really not aiming for perfect designs of my presentations, I am up to their understanding and expansion of knowledge but fortunately I did both perfectly.

Weaknesses
|
· The website provides detailed information about the leaf, its part and function. It really realizes me a lot of how they important in our lives
|
· It provides detailed information about the topic.
· It provides explanations.
|
· I don’t see any weaknesses in the website.

Your Reflection:
Write your reflections on your experience.
· At first I really don’t know how to start and when to start in doing my presentation but by further searching and analyzing I have overcome it. Surfing the net to generate more information really helps me. You learned something out of your readings in searching for the best information you could get from the net. You will also discover new ideas or an explanation. Surfing the net to discover more information is a big help.
How did you find the task of surfing the net relevant in generating more information for your support materials to the topic?
It is good. You will discover new things that will help you understand the topic well. This task is fun and can help you gain more knowledge.
Insights:
Imagine how schools located in communities without internet facilities cope with this need.
For me those schools/communities without internet facilities will have their work very time consuming. Though we have books for us also to generate more ideas or information, internet facilities is also important for it is accessible and can also help you in times of rush hours.
